Michel Bussard
Michel Bussard is a Geneva-based Attorney-at-Law whose practice spans corporate law, tax counsel, contract drafting, restructuring, litigation with Swiss Courts of Law, debt recovery, civil law, liquidator’s missions and cross-border corporate services.
Michel obtained his Law degree with Université de Fribourg in 1997 and was admitted to the Geneva Bar in 2000. After six years of experience with KPMG, he joined prominent Geneva Law firms and later co-founded SMB Law in 2019.
Besides his legal practice, he holds Director positions in a wide range of Swiss companies (oil trading, commodities trading, financial services, industrial firms and real estate), some of which are subsidiaries of listed companies.
Michel handles complex corporate restructuring, shareholders disputes, tax litigation (including before the Swiss Supreme Court and Federal Administrative Tribunal), due diligence mandates, complex contract drafting, and advising foreign companies establishing operations in Switzerland.
He acts as Swiss representative of foreign groups based abroad (Canada, United Arab Emirates, Sweden, Germany, South Africa, Malaysia), which enabled him to create and maintain a solid network of international professionals (chartered accountants, tax advisers, audit firms, banks, trustees).
Michel also manages ongoing corporate, tax and compliance needs such as contract management, licensing, mergers, liquidations, mandates of curator, criminal files and regulatory supervision.
Recognised as a trustworthy partner and advisor, he holds long-lasting business relationships with many clients in Switzerland and abroad. His vision, pragmatism and efficiency have been recognised by key officers of important groups and owners of regional business in Western Switzerland.
Besides his legal experience, Michel obtained a diploma in finance and balance sheet analysis as well as a CAS in Corporate Tax Law in 2018, which enables him to better apprehend complex situations in corporate environments.
Michel brings to SMBC Law not just technical acumen, but a strong client-oriented posture: practical tactical advice, contacts with administration in several Swiss cantons, and a deep knowledge of Swiss Courts and authorities.
